WNY Industrial Exploring

1_20200324_113848  Spent a few hours today exploring a recently sold medical manufacturing plant.  The contents need to be removed before the building starts the next chapter of it’s life.  I am not saying who was my guide or where it is for obvious reasons; but it is an exciting project for downtown Buffalo.

It always amazes me the state of a building after it is sold and the “treasures” that were left to be disposed.  It is almost like they couldn’t leave fast enough and just left everything.  Motors, tools, equipment and raw materials that if someone took the time to sort it and recycle (or upcycle) could make some decent money.  In order to not over-run the WNY Startup Community, I am posting the gallery here.

Please let me know if you have any interest in any of the equipment.

Afternoon with a Shop Manual and no HEAT!

Spent the afternoon going through the hundreds of steps required to diagnose why there was no heat in my 2011 Nissan Titan. This required dismantling most of the dashboard, removal of the glovebox and part of the center console. As an added bonus, removed the center console after a part fell underneath. This is what it looked like after 4 hours;

Decided to Google “2011 Nissan Titan no heat” and found this: https://www.titantalk.com/threads/no-heat-fixed.136052/ …2 minute fix and heat is working. Now to put the truck back together.

It wasn’t a total waste of time…added some accessories that were on my first Titan and replaced the corroded chinese NISMO logo I installed when I first bought the truck. The new one adds a little more color and has LED backlighting.

My neighbor was cleaning out his basement and came across these vintage speakers. When he told me they were Yamaha’s, I couldn’t pass them up…

It’s a dirty job…

Well, after funding most of the local emergency plumbers, it was time to fix the main drain for good.  The first estimates came in between $2,000 and $16,000 depending on if the main connection across the street required the town to excavate the street.

Thank goodness for RIC Plumbing!  They were fast, efficient and CLEAN!  They didn’t leave piles of uncompacted dirt around to settle naturally.  They replaced the soil in the excavations so that all I had to do was to plant seed.

THANK YOU

Vintage Glass Photos

Going through a box of items from Uncle Bob Goodlander, he had taken these pictures and developed them on glass plates. After some experimenting, I found the easiest way to view them was the following;

  1. Clean the glass side with a damp cloth
  2. Using a fine brush, clean the silver side of the print.
  3. Place the picture with the glass side down on the scanner
  4. Scan the image to a file
  5. Open the file with GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)
  6. From the menu “Colors”, select “Invert”
  7. From the menu “Colors”, select Auto –> equalize
